10th Mekong Indochina Hash and Chiang Mai Postlubes

Some great hash events are coming to Northern Thailand. From October 24-26 Sukhothai and the world heritage site will host the 10th Mekong Indochina Hash. This event will be followed by a MALE only postlube run in Chiang Mai hosted by the Chiang Mai Hash House Harriers on Monday the 27th. This event will be MALE only for reasons that will be perfectly clear for those who attend. The CH3 and CUMH3 male hashes of Chiang Mai always hold great events and it looks like this year will be no different. As always Foxy Lady in Chiang Mai will be sponsoring this event along with the Number One Bar and Bistro.

We also will have a great family friendly hash being held on the 28th. Bring the wife, kids, dog, inlaws; everyone is welcome at the CH4 Happy Hash on Tuesday.

If you have been keeping up on my updates here on the site you may have read about the Chiang Mai Hash House Harriers; you know, the drinkers with a running problem. Anyway, I am the current GM of the CH3 here in Chiang Mai and it is my responsibility to coordinate any events we have coming up. We have a big run on Monday so I have been out scouting the running area and generally preparing for our event. Well here I am out in the jungle and I come across these steps leading up to what looks like a small temple. I start to climb and the steps get smaller and smaller but are still visible. Someone went through a lot of trouble to build these. After about an hour of hard climbing I am starting to think “what the heck is up here? It better be worth it.” I climb for a total of about an hour and a half and finally reach the summit. What a great view! This was worth it!

From trekking to elephant rides; paintball and off road buggies; a monkey centre and a snake farm; plenty of sport groups; and just about anything you could think of. Foxy lady now carries Federbräu (Federbrau) beer. Federbrau is a blonde German lager aimed at competing with the likes of Heineken and other premium beers distributed in Thailand.

At 4.7% alcohol it still has enough kick to get the job done. For those of you that prefer quality over quantity Federbräu will be the only beer distributed in Thailand which strictly adheres to Germany’s Reinheitsgebot; otherwise know as Germany’s beer purity law. This law states that the only ingredients that can be used in the production of beer are water, barley, and hops.

I myself have tried it and it’s quite refreshing, it goes down smooth with no bite or bitter after taste.

Chiang Mai's Male Hash Pub is Foxy Lady - CH3 and CUMH3

Foxy Lady is the Hash Pub for the Male Hash House Harriers of Chiang Mai. The Chiang Mai CH3 runs every other Monday and the Chiang Mai CUMH3 runs every other Tuesday.

A typical hash run consists of a 45 minute run in the countryside and hills of Chiang Mai, followed by food and beer at the run site. There is a pickup service at The Number One Bar and Bistro on Loi Kroh road and return rides are also provided. All of this for a mere 10 dollars.

After the run we head back into town for a pub crawl around the seedier side of Chiang Mai. Foxy Lady is usually the first stop followed by other go go bars, girly bars and massage parlors in Chiang Mai.

On male hash nights all the runners receive their first drink free! This is normally around happy hour so in addition to a free drink hashers can also take advantage happy hour prices on beer at only 60 baht per bottle!

History of The Hash House Harriers

THE HASH IS BORN

The Hash House Harriers as we know it today was founded in Malaya (now Malaysia) by Albert Stephen Ignatius Gispert, an English chartered accountant.
It was sometime during 1937 when Gispert (or simply "G" as he was known to his friends) acquired a taste for the paper chase with the Springgit Harriers in Malacca (also in Malaya). Shortly after being transferred by his accounting firm to Kuala Lumpur he gathered together a number of fellow expatriate businessmen to form a harrier group. The first run was held in in December 1938 and the founding members included Cecil H. Lee, Frederick "Horse" Thomson, Eric Galvin, H.M. Doig, and Ronald "Torch" Bennet.
The group's name came about primarily because local authorities required legal registration of the club. While the "Kuala Lumpur Harriers" would have appeared a logical choice, "G" decided instead to use the nickname for the Selangor Club where a number of the local harriers both lived and took their meals. It seems that due to its lackluster food, the dining room was commonly referred to as the "Hash House."
The philosophy of the original Hash House Harriers from the 1938 charter:
• To promote physical fitness among our members
• To get rid of weekend hangovers
• To acquire a good thirst and to satisfy it in beer
• To persuade the older members that they are not as old as they feel

MODERN HARRIERS

Hashing in Kuala Lumpur was suspended during the World War II occupation by Japanese forces, but then reestablished after peace returned. It wasn't long before
the hash began slowly spreading around the world. Former members of the original Hash House Harriers started a hash in 1947 near Milan, Italy, but it wasn't until 1962 that the next group was formed in Singapore. The Singapore Hash was gradually followed by others until in 1973 there were approximately 35 hashes in 14 countries.
Subsequently, the hash began spreading like wildfire and the number of hashes soon climbed into the hundreds by the early 1980s. Today (1999) there are some 1,700 active hashes in over 180 countries, including approximately 350 in the United States.

Well, this week was another “only in Thailand” sort of thing.

It just so happens that there was a pre-election to the election later this month. I went for a short holiday to the mountains up in Pai, and boy was I cold. Ever try camping when it’s around 2-5 degrees Celsius?! I never did and won’t be doing it again. Anyway what happened while I was away was on Thursday the MAN decides to notify all bars in the entire country of Thailand to go dry and force them to not serve alcohol on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. If they get caught serving, and some have, it’s a mandatory night in jail, 10,000 baht fine and you must forfeit all sales for the day. Thanks for the notice!!! So during the height of the busy season we had to close for 3 days, not to mention again on the 23rd for the ACTUAL election. But, TIT, This is Thailand.

On a happier front I have changed the hiring policies a bit and we now have over 30 bar girls working for us. Six new girls have started this week alone! We have got a stunner who just came up from Bangkok, I’ll see if I can upload a photo later. Seems things are really starting to pick up….

Many of the Chiang mai bar girls who’ve worked at Foxy Lady over the years will be paying us a visit – all are welcome.

Halloween Update

Halloween is pretty much an American holiday, but this year Club Foxy Lady, the premier Chiang-mai go-go bar, will host its first Halloween party.

Our beautiful Chiang-mai bar girls will dress for the occasion and we hope that our customers will come in costume as well, although costume will not be required. We’re all kids at heart, and the chance to go back to our childhood days and play Halloween is a great excuse for some childish adult entertainment.

There’s always plenty of “eye candy” at Foxy, but we’ll have some special treats in store for our customers. We’ll be offering “nipple tequila shots” (salt on one side, lime on the other) and there should definitely be pussy (cats) to be found. Loy Krathong Festival in Chiang Mai

November sees Chiang-mai full for the Loi Krathong (or Loi Kratong) Festival. Thousands of lanterns fueled by the hot air from candles rise into the night sky to create a truly amazing sight. The lanterns symbolize release of worry and sins and are accompanied by fireworks, floating candles on the Ping River, and a festive atmosphere.

This also marks the beginning of high season and Chiangmai night-life heats up as sexy Chiang mai bar girls come down from their hill tribe villages and rural areas to meet the increased demand from customers during the busy season. Club Foxy Lady which normally has about 20-25 sexy Go-go dancers will go up to about 40 dancers during the height of busy season. Local Events in Chiang Mai

The Hash House Harriers (the guys that run for fun – also known lovingly as “drinkers with a running problem”) local chapter makes Club Foxy Lady one its regular hang-outs and their International Event held last year in Chiangmai and attended by over 6000 runners from around the world was sponsored by Club Foxy Lady and provided a full week of outrageous fun. I think the runners entertained the Chiang mai bar girls with their constant antics as much as the bar girls entertained the runners.

“Bike week” is another big event each year in Chiang-mai. The town fills up with choppers, fat boys and soft tails one more impressive than the other. Bikers from all over Asia converge on Chiang-mai and inundate Club Foxy Lady as well as the rest of Chiang mai.

Corporate presentations take on a whole new twist. Club Foxy Lady has a corporate red carpet program for its Chiang-mai based customers and will also make special arrangements for corporate customers that visit Chiang Mai.

International Events in Chiang Mai

We’ve had some incredible birthday parties with guest attending from around the world. Our Australian Surfer friend, Rex and his lovely wife (who did most of the work) planned a 50th birthday party at Foxy Lady that was attended by top surfers together their spouses from Bali, Hawaii, California, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. The bar girls were blown away and so were the guests. “Hang eleven.” Years later, Rex’s 50th is still talked about around town and I’m sure his guests are still in shock.

Sporting events are also a perfect venue. Club Foxy Lady sponsors local golf tournaments and is a sponsor for the famous Chiang-mai Cricket International Tournament that takes place annually. You can laugh with the bloopers just as hard as the crowd hoots and hollers with a spectacular performance taped the day of the matches and played on our 100” projection screen. In one memorable Cricket match a player took a ball right smack on the nose which bloodied his nose. All night the crowd was screaming “play the bloody nose!!” If you’ve never seen yourself perform on a 100” projection screen, that, in itself is an experience, but with all else that goes on at Foxy Lady the experience is amplified to unforgettable proportions.
